In broad terms, the Mylor facility can create a totally flexible training package for any Olympic Sailing Team to meet their needs and remove the complication of multi-venue training. Mylor also has the experience and expertise in running major national and international regattas and has been chosen as a training and development location by a number of GBR World Sailing Champions. Apart from the excellent open sailing waters of Falmouth Bay, the Mylor International Sailing Centre also has the sheltered training area of the Carrick Roads which in itself is large enough to fit full size Olympic courses, ensuring sail training can take place in any weather conditions. The Mylor facility combines the excellent facilities of Mylor Yacht Harbour, Windsport International, Restronguet Sailing Club and Mylor Yacht Club all within a stone’s throw of each other and committed to supporting performance sailing. Falmouth Bay and Estuary is one of the largest natural harbours in the world and has been attracting visitors for many hundreds of years. It is the last refuge or the first Landfall in the Western Approaches. In 1969 Sir Robin Knox-Johnson became the first person to sail single-handed around the globe and in 2005 Ellen McArthur broke the record for a single-handed circumnavigation, both intrepid sailors finished in Falmouth. This is a place which understands the demands of world class sailors. For the recreational sailor, or the most competitive Olympian, the attraction of the Estuary meets your every need. With over 70 square miles of magnificent sailing waters inside St Anthony’s Head and the Lizard these are surely some of the best sailing waters in England. In the very centre of this yachting heaven, sheltered from the prevailing winds on the western shore of the Carrick Roads is Mylor Yacht Harbour. Originally the smallest Naval Dockyard, home of the Packet ships and centre for the French Resistance during the Second World War, Mylor has since been a yachting and sailing centre and base of the last remaining sailing oyster fishing fleet in the world. The location provides everything anyone could want when choosing a performance sailing venue – well stocked chandlery, full rigging service, welding fabrication, traditional boatyard skills, latest GRP and paint technology, specialist performance boat repairs, dedicated dinghy and catamaran training centre, sail repair centre, two sailing clubs, marina, fuel facilities, marine engineers, self catering accommodation, café, bar, excellent licensed restaurant. Probably the best sailing training facilities in the country. |
